About the Event
The core repertoire of BRYGGEN consists of music by postmodern composers Arvo Pärt, Max Richter, Philip Glass, Pēteris Vasks, Gia Kantsjeli and others who give strings a prominent place.
Jolente De Maeyer wants to introduce people to classical music in a different way. Thus, she chooses the recomposed Four Seasons. In The Four Seasons Recomposed, it evolves into a contemplative listening that does not look for a particular meaning. The new aesthetic perspectives Richter offers are those of minimalism, electronic music and post-rock.
Thoughtful and intelligent, BRYGGEN puts John Tavener's The protecting veil on the programme with him. Tavener uses the eight Byzantine tone systems. While this work declares a clear subject, you can simply enjoy the pure music. Above all, the British composer wants to underline and express the importance of the feminine. The term 'the eternal feminine' applies here, implying the forces of creation, nourishment and sustenance.
BRYGGEN will perform this work with Pieter Wispelwey as soloist.
